Law Library

mobile connection in libraries

Now I know mobile phone use (insofar as talking is concerned), is a taboo in library buildings. But mobiles serve other purposes.

The mobile reception is really bad in Reid Library. I suppose having an old building built pre-wireless considerations doesn't help, but seriously on telstra I get like 1 bar in the PG room dropping to zero, and in some areas of ground floor I get 0 bars.

For comparison, Curtin Uni have a mobile phone cell tower literally on top of the library building

air con

the air cond in the law library is soooo cold
like a freezer every day
i got sick due to the coldness

How come there is never a help desk person at law? Anytime I go to Reid BOOM help desk person waiting to help. Anytime I go to law SAD cause there is no help desk person. Make some of the help desk people come to law! Law people need help too!

The 4th floor is ridiculously loud all the time. Please make it clearer it is a silent zone, and perhaps consider having staff regularly come up and inform people if they're being too loud. This isn't the standard one would expect of a postgraduate degree. Its loud and distracting and impossible to do work. Really really disappointing.

END Auto sign-out of OneSearch

It is bloody annoying to have OneSearch sign out automatically after a few minutes. Facebook doesn't require it why can't you!!!

If the issue is security well consider this: Having it log out automatically is only useful on public computers in the library. For people using OneSearch at home or college it is not helpful, it is more of a hindrance and distraction.

In fact I would argue it is a greater security risk to have it log out automatically because it increases the likelihood of advanced keyloggers retrieving sign in information.

Noise control

You NEED to do something about the noise on the 4th floor. It is supposed to be a quiet zone but there are bands of kids up here in gaggles talking absolute nonsense for hours on end. Put more signage indicating it is a quiet zone or have someone patrolling regularly. Right now it is ridiculous and unworkable.
